Sk8er Boi

He was a boy, she was a girlCan I make it anymore obvious? He was a punk, she did balletWhat more can I say?
He wanted her, she'd never tellSecretly she wanted him as wellBut all of her friends stuck up their noseAnd they had a problem with his baggy clothes
He was a sk8ter boi, she said, "See ya later boy"He wasn't good enough for herShe had a pretty face but her head was up in spaceShe needed to come back down to earth
Five years from now, she sits at homeFeeding the baby, she's all aloneShe turns on TV, guess who she seesSk8ter boi rockin' up MTV
She calls up her friends, they already knowAnd they've all got tickets to see his showShe tags along and stands in the crowdLooks up at the man that she turned down, yeah
He was a sk8ter boi, she said, "See ya later boy"He wasn't good enough for herNow he's a superstar, slamin' on his guitarDoes your pretty face see what he's worth?

Sorry girl, but you missed outWell, tough luck that boy's mine nowWe are more than just good friendsThis is how the story ends
Too bad that you couldn't seeSee the man that boy could beThere is more than meets the eyeI see the soul that is inside
He's just a boy and I'm just a girlCan I make it anymore obvious? We are in love, haven't you heardHow we rock each others world?
I'm with the sk8ter boi, I said, "See ya later boy"I'll be backstage after the showI'll be at a studio, singing the song we wroteAbout a girl you used to know

This had to be the first song that I did on here. It was the song that made her name and the first one I fell in love with, so it naturally has to be first. Sorry for the delay. There is one line in this song that I think holds the take home message for this song, "There is more than meets the eye, I see the soul that is inside."
But let's go back to beginning. First of all, he's a skater that also rocks out. Who doesn't love them some rockers. That being said, I obviously don't understand what she could possibly be thinking. But it does say that she secretly wanted him as well, so good  for her. But she fell prey to one of the classic blunders, listening to friends who don't know what they're talking about. They had a problem with his baggy clothes?!?! Well, I'm screwed. I wear baggy clothes ALL the time. Who cares if they're baggy? I understand that tight jeans have their place and that too baggy looks gangsta, but hey, baggy clothes are SUPER comfortable. I don't blame him in the slightest.
Now one of my favorite parts, her head was up in space. Who is she to think she's better than him. Odds are they were in high school at this stage of the song. Let's be honest, there are a lot of girls (and guys) who think they're hot stuff in high school only to realize a few years later how dumb that really was and then they all become friends a la 21 Jump Street. I think the advice here is good for everyone, COME BACK DOWN TO EARTH. Or at least somewhere in the stratosphere. We all have things we are good at and things we are miserable at, accept it. Don't judge someone else for being bad at something you're good at because they're probably really good at something else. In this case, he's a superstar rocking on his guitar. You never know somebody until you get to know them. It sounds stupid worded that way, but it's true.
BAM! Reality check time. He's on MTV, she's all alone. Who's back down to Earth now huh? Obviously she regrets her lack of action. And these friends of hers who already have tickets? I sure hope these aren't the same friends that made her not take any action even though she liked him. If peer pressure from some group of friends made me miss out on something awesome, I probably wouldn't be hanging out with them. Obviously they're more concerned about something other than your happiness. So if these are the same friends, shame on her!
Now the guy she secretly wanted is taken by another girl. Why is this? It's because she gave into peer pressure and judged a book by it's cover. That's the takeaway from this song. Peer pressure sucks and don't judge a book by it's cover. After all, "There is more than meets the eye, [there's] a soul that is inside." That is what is important, the soul inside. We need to take the time to get to know people, to understand them, their dreams and passions. We need to know what they struggle with, what they don't show the world. If this girl had taken the time to get to know the real Skater Boi, her friends wouldn't have been able to say ANYTHING that would have swayed her. She would know the true man that is inside and would be the girl backstage and not the girl he used to know.
No girl wants to be the girl "he" used to know and no guy (even if he found someone great) wants to be the guy that was overlooked because of his appearance or some other silly thing. It is my hope that we will all strive to better "see the soul that is inside."
